If you are supported by Sea Grant to work on topics related to aquaculture, you are eligible to apply. While focused on early and mid-career professionals, we welcome applications from anyone who feels they would benefit from participation in the program.

The 80-100 hours of contact time per cohort will include a wide variety of topics related to aquaculture including but not limited to:

  • Technical production of finfish, shellfish, crustaceans and more
  • Communication, outreach, and education skills
  • human/social dimensions of aquaculture
  • DEIJA integration into projects
  • Marketing and business planning
  • Institutional knowledge from Extension

In addition to specialized topics listed above, in-person workshops will provide significant exposure to subject matter during regional site visits, activities, and networking with a suite of different Sea Grant network partners (industry, academic, non-profits, trade organizations, etc)

Each cohort will consist of approximately 25 people.

ALA cohorts will participate in 80-100 contact hours of interdisciplinary curriculum that will primarily take place during the two, four day workshops*

Cohort 1: April 2024; location: coastal New Hampshire

                 October 2024; location: coastal North Carolina

Cohort 2: April 2025; location: coastal New Hampshire

                October 2025; location: coastal North Carolina

*Exact dates and hotel venues for each location are forthcoming

Participants will be responsible for the cost of travel to and from each venue and an approximately $200 registration fee. All other costs including lodging, meals, transportation within workshops, and more will be covered by the ALA award.

The workshops will be organized and facilitated by NH and NC Sea Grant staff. Curriculum will include a range of topics taught by experts including industry members, trade organizations, academics, non-profit groups, government agencies, and more.
