NORTHEAST SEA GRANT CONSORTIUM HUMAN DIMENSIONS OF COASTAL AND MARINE ECOSYSTEMS RESEARCH
Recognizing that some issues are best addressed at the regional scale, the Northeast Sea Grant Consortium, comprised of the Sea Grant programs in Connecticut, Maine, MIT, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Woods Hole, funded four projects with a regional scope during 2012-2013 focusing on human dimensions of coastal and marine ecosystems:
- Social and economic impact assessment of catch share management in the Northeast multispecies fishery (Christopher Glass, UNH)
- Climate change adaptation and ecosystem service resilience in Northeast coastal communities (Robert Johnston, Clark)
- The governance role of local authorities in marine spatial planning (John Duff, Univ. of Mass., Boston)
- Decision support for the economic analysis of trade-offs in coastal and marine spatial planning for the U.S. Northeast (Porter Hoagland, WHOI)
NOAA SEA GRANT AQUACULTURE RESEARCH NSI
The National Sea Grant College Program established National Strategic Investments (NSIs) to fund research on high priority issues with a national focus that complement the strategic objectives of the state Sea Grant programs. Projects are selected through national competitions. In 2012, UNH researchers were funded for a two-year project through the NOAA Sea Grant Aquaculture Research NSI:
